More of Mommy's Secret Recipes

Mommy had promised some of her friends that she would share more of her recipes so that other mommies with little toddlers can cook a variety of different food to please our fussy palates.

Here is an easy one, Mashed Pumpkin with White Fish.

Ingredients for 1 portion:
1/4 of a medium-size pumpkin
1 small piece of fish (cod or threadfin or other white fish), season with a bit of sesame oil & soya sauce
1 teaspoon of Parmesan cheese
A dash of dried herb (optional)

Directions:
1) Steam the fish for 10 mins and flake it up, remove any bones from the fish.
2) Steam or boil the pumpkin until it is soft, then mash it up with a fork. Add a tablespoon of hot water to dilute it.
3) Mix the fish and pumpkin together, add in the Parmesan cheese and herb.
4) Serve immediately.

This one is a 'one stone kills two bird' type of dish. First you prepare the Old Melon with Pork Ribs Soup for the family and then you use 2-3 cups of the soup for cooking baby's Porky Porridge.

Ingredients for a big bowl of soup, serving 3-4 person:
300g of pork prime ribs
1 old melon cut into big pieces and remove the seeds
2 carrots chopped into big pieces
A handful of wolfberries
1 corn cut into 3 pieces

Directions for Old Melon with Pork Ribs Soup:
1) Boil the ribs in some hot water for 10 min, to get rid of the smell then drain them.
2) In another pot, boil 8 cups of water. When the water boils, put in all the ingredient, simmer in low heat for a good 40 mins.
3) Scoop out 2-3 cups of soup with 2 or 3 pieces of carrots & 1 rib for making porridge, add salt to taste for the remaining soup. Serve the soup hot.

Directions for Porky Porridge:
1)Wash and drain 1/3 cup of rice.
2)Add in the soup you kept aside, together with the carrots and rib. You might want to freeze it for a short moment to remove the oil from the soup before cooking.
3)Heat until boiling and then turn down to low heat, simmer for 20 mins.
4)Shed meat from the rib and chop the carrots into chunks before serving.

Happy Eating :))

Go-Go Bambini plus Ben & Jerry's @ Dempsey

After seeing that I enjoyed myself so much at Turf City's Fidgets, Daddy & Mommy brought me to a similar place at Dempsey Hill, last Sat afternoon.

It's call Go-Go Bambini; like Fidgets, you need socks to play.

They were many big kids around. They were older, rowdier, wilder and in Mommy's sense more "horrible"! Mommy never really like children before I came along, and she still finds it hard to accept some kids. She was like, "OMG! Did I just come to hell?"

Almost all the children were already walking, but I still have not master the skill, so I need Daddy's help to hold my hands while I attempt to take a few steps.

After all the activities that we have had, it was time to relax and unwind. We headed for ice-creams at Ben & Jerry's. Mommy had her favorite Strawberry Cheesecake and Daddy had... I think it was Cherry Garcia?! Whatever was the name, they just taste wonderful!

Sharing a moment with Daddy... erm, actually it was more like sharing a scoop with Daddy.

And some water to drink after ice-cream.

We came home for dinner and I had my quick bathe, all went well. And I am one naked, happy baby!

Punk Hair styled with Sunflower

Being an active baby means I sweat like nobody's business. I would often have my hair stuck to my face with the help of my perspiration. So today is no exceptional, but I have got a new hair do instead.

It started with the sunflower Daddy bought for Mommy. I like the sunflower so much that I had to, not only pulled out a petal or two, but to stick my head into it.

Ok. So the pollen got stuck to my hair for doing it but no big deal.

Hmm... the hair seemed a little strange. It's like... they became rather rigid.

Mommy thinks it's cool to have a punk rock hairstyle, at least once in my babyhood. But I am not so fond of this hair do, I didn't think it suit my face-shape.

But who cares, as long as it don't stay this way after I bathe, for the second time of the day. Forget the sunflower or the hair. Oh, look what I found! A star! Think I better put it in my mouth before Mommy notices it.

A trip to Singapore Botanic Gardens

Last Sunday, we went to the Singapore Botanic Gardens where I saw many big, fat fishes in the ponds!
There was also the swans, but they were so busy picking on their feathers that they didn't even come and say "hi".
The mini waterfall was a good place for me because it was cool and a little misty, especially when we went round to the back of the fall.

I wasn't very cooperative, as usual, I got cranky and refused to remain in my stroller, so Daddy had to let me ride him on the shoulders like a pony.

I learned about trees, trees and many many trees! Mommy caught be repeating "tree" after her and she was over the moon! But she wondered if I really understand what it means.

My Miracle Water

I am the face of the future SK-II model. Every night, I watched Mommy prep her face up with "miracle water" from SK-II. Now I can do that same patting motion while posing with the bottle.

Oh, I can even do it with cotton pads, just about as pro as Mommy.

Mommy's Secret Recipe

Mommy cooks the most nutritious and tasty congee that even the fussy-eating babies would want to try. It contains healthy ingredients like carrots, cabbage, fish and egg.

Yucks! Veg & fish, you might say, but Mommy cooked them until they virtually disappeared, so even the fish or veg hating babies would be fooled.

Ingredients for 2 adults and 1 baby:

1 cup of rice
6 cups of water
2 carrots, finely grated
5 leaves of cabbage, finely chopped
1 small piece of fish (cod/salmon or any firmer flesh fish), seasoned with a dash of sesame oil and soy sauce
1 egg

Directions:

1) Put the rice and the water in a pot and bring to boil. Then turn down to medium heat to simmer for 20mins or until the rice becomes very soft. Stir occasionally.

2) Put the grated carrots and chopped cabbage into the congee, stir well, covered the pot and reduce to low heat to simmer for another 20 mins. Stir occasionally.

3) Put the fish and the egg into the congee, stir for 2 min to break up the fish and egg until they become fine and evenly spread out.

4) Serve warm. *Optional- Adults can add a bit of salt and fried shallots to the congee for more favors.

I call it my "Power Congee"! Yum! Yum!
